Innovating Waste Disposal for Social Value

How the GMCA is driving social value, circularity, and sustainability through the tendering process

About the Film

Around 4 per cent of the UK’s municipal waste, approximately 1.1 million tonnes, is generated by households across Greater Manchester each year.

Viewing waste as a resource that can be used for social good can help achieve net zero targets while boosting sustainability and circularity.

The Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) waste and resources Team, in partnership with SUEZ recycling and recovery UK, are leading the way with a number of projects delivering direct benefits to local communities, including the Renew Hub at Trafford Park, the UK’s largest, newest and most unique reuse operation.

Local Authorities and Waste Disposal Authorities can drive social value, circularity, and sustainability through the tendering process. Adopting the GMCA Team’s strategy and approach can foster valuable learning and progress across the waste management sector.
